Incident report
What happened: a payment provider started timing out after a configuration change on their side, and checkout calls waited for it until they failed. Why it hit customers: our checkout had no timeout shorter than the provider's. What we changed: checkout now gives up on the provider after 4 seconds and offers card payment instead, and the provider's status is monitored next to ours.
