Uptimecheck API

Add monitors from deploy scripts, pause them during maintenance, and pull uptime and incidents into your own dashboards. The API speaks JSON over HTTPS and every response wraps its payload in data.

Authentication

Create a key under Settings › API in your workspace (owners and admins, on plans with API access). Keys belong to a workspace, not a person, and are either read only or read & write. Send the key as a bearer token:

Errors

Errors use HTTP status codes and a JSON body with a stable code you can branch on, a readable message, and for validation errors a message per field.

Status	Code	Meaning
400	invalid_json / invalid_parameter	The body isn't a JSON object, or a query parameter is out of range.
401	unauthorized	The key is missing, malformed or revoked.
402	plan_limit / subscription_inactive	The plan's limit is reached, or the trial or subscription has ended.
403	plan_feature / read_only_key	The plan doesn't include the API, or a read-only key tried to change something.
404	not_found	No such resource in this workspace.
422	validation_failed	One or more fields are invalid. See `fields` for a message per field.
429	rate_limited	More than 120 requests in a minute. Wait for the time in Retry-After.

Rate limits

Each key can make 120 requests per minute. Every response carries X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset (Unix time). Over the limit you get 429 with Retry-After in seconds.

AI assistants (MCP)

The workspace is also a Model Context Protocol server, so Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other assistants can read status, uptime, response times and incidents, test a URL, and with a read & write key create and pause monitors, acknowledge incidents, start maintenance and post status page updates. Endpoint https://app.uptimecheck.com/api/mcp (Streamable HTTP), authenticated like the REST API with Authorization: Bearer uc_… and the same rate limit. Setup snippets for each assistant are under Settings › API.

Webhooks

A webhook alert channel (Alert channels › Add channel › Webhook) POSTs JSON to your URL for every alert of the monitors it's connected to. Answer with any 2xx within 10 seconds. Anything else is retried after 30 s, 2 min, 10 min and 30 min (5 attempts).

Event	Sent when
monitor.down	A failure was confirmed by a second check and an incident opened.
monitor.up	The monitor recovered; `downtimeSeconds` says for how long it was down.
monitor.slow	Checks were slower than the monitor's limit (`avgMs`, `limitMs`).
monitor.fast	Response times are back under the limit.
certificate.expiring	The TLS certificate expires soon (`expiresAt`, `daysLeft`).
domain.expiring	The domain registration expires soon (`expiresAt`, `daysLeft`).
dns.changed	DNS records changed (`before`, `after`).
site.issues	A site health scan found new broken links or mixed content (`newBroken`, `newMixed`, `issues` with up to 5 examples).
domain.email_issues	A domain monitor's email setup (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX) got a problem the previous check didn't have (`problems` with `level` and `text`).
site.performance_dropped	A page's mobile page speed score fell below the monitor's limit (`scoreLimit`, `drops` with `url`, `score` and `previous`).
server.rebooted	A server with the agent restarted.
test	Sent by the Test button on the alert channel.

Verify the signature

Every request is signed with the secret you set on the channel. Compute the HMAC over the raw body before parsing it, compare in constant time, and reject timestamps more than 5 minutes old so a captured request can't be replayed.

x-uptimecheck-timestamp	Unix time (seconds) when the request was signed.
x-uptimecheck-signature	`sha256=` + hex HMAC-SHA256 of `<timestamp>.<raw body>`, keyed with the channel's secret.

All monitors in the workspace, sorted by name, with 24-hour uptime and average response time.

Query parameters

Create a monitor

POST/api/v1/monitorsRead & write key

The body depends on type. Fields with defaults can be left out. Without channelIds the monitor alerts the workspace's default alert channels; send [] for none. The first check runs within a minute. Returns 402 when the plan's limit for that monitor type is reached.

Body

intervalSecondsinteger

How often to check: 60, 120, 300, 600, 900, 1800 or 3600 (the plan sets the minimum). For heartbeat: how often your job runs, 60 up to 604800. Ignored for domain (checked twice a day) and server (the agent reports every minute).

regionsstring[]

eu-north (Stockholm). eu-west (London) and us-east (New York) are not online yet. Empty (default) = all online locations.

projectIdstring | null

Put the monitor in a project.

Alert channels to notify. See List alert channels.

http: method, headers [{name, value}], body, expectedStatus ("200-299, 301"), keyword {value, mode: contains | not_contains}, followRedirects, verifyTls, timeoutMs, slowMs (alert when three checks in a row are slower; null = off). tcp/ping: timeoutMs, slowMs. dns: recordType (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, SOA, TXT, CAA), expected [values]. heartbeat: graceSeconds (60, 300, 900, 1800, 3600, 21600), schedule {cron, timeZone} to run on a crontab schedule instead of every intervalSeconds (then intervalSeconds can be left out), maxRunSeconds (60–86400 or null; needs a ping to /start). crawl: maxPages (50, 100, 250, 500), checkExternal (also check links to other sites). server: cpuPercent, memoryPercent, diskPercent (1–100 or null for off, default 90), forMinutes (1, 5, 10, 15, 30), graceSeconds (120, 180, 300, 600, 900), alertOnReboot. All fields have defaults.

Send only the fields to change. config is merged with the current config, and channelIds replaces the list. The type can't be changed. Changing the target starts the monitor over.

Pause a monitor

POST/api/v1/monitors/{id}/pauseRead & write key

Stops checks and alerts, for example during a deploy or maintenance. Open incidents are closed and alerts that haven't gone out yet are canceled. A monitor that is already paused is returned unchanged.

Resume a monitor

POST/api/v1/monitors/{id}/resumeRead & write key

Starts checks again. The monitor is pending until the first result arrives. A monitor that isn't paused is returned unchanged: a down monitor stays down with its incident open.

GET/api/v1/monitors/{id}/checks

Raw results from every location, newest first, with what the probe saw for failed checks. Kept for the plan's retention period. To get the next page, pass the last checkedAt as before.

Get server metrics

GET/api/v1/monitors/{id}/metrics

Server monitors only: the latest agent report and averages per interval (2 minutes for 24h, 1 hour for 7d, 4 hours for 30d). Disk is the fullest filesystem; network is bytes per second.

Get page speed

GET/api/v1/monitors/{id}/page-speed

Site health monitors only: Google Lighthouse's latest run per page on mobile and desktop (score 0–100, lab metrics in ms with Lighthouse's 0–1 score each, suggestions with estimated savings), real visitors' Core Web Vitals at the 75th percentile when Google has them (scope is page, or origin for the whole site), and 90 days of scores. Measured once a day.

Get email authentication

GET/api/v1/monitors/{id}/email

Domain monitors only: the latest check of the domain's email setup (MX and mail provider, SPF with its DNS lookup count, DKIM keys found, DMARC policy and report addresses, MTA-STS), a grade (good, attention, risk) and findings worst first, each with a fix or the DNS record to add. history has the grades of the last 30 checks. Checked twice a day.

Confirmed outages, newest first. To get the next page, pass the last startedAt as before.

Acknowledge an incident

Marks an open incident as being handled. Alerts to channels with an escalation delay that haven't gone out yet are canceled; the recovery alert still goes to everyone who got the outage alert.

Schedule maintenance

POST/api/v1/maintenanceRead & write key

No checks, incidents or alerts for the monitors between startsAt and endsAt, and the time doesn't count against uptime. A start in the past starts the window now. At most 14 days. Handy around deploys: start a window, deploy, end it.
